Shanghai Int’l Film Festival to display ‘Malakout’

‘Malakout’ is picked to attend 2020 Shanghai Int’l Film Festival in China.

‘Malakout’, a horror genre animated piece from Iran, has made a contender to the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) in China.

Farnouosh Abedi’s 11-minute animation is about a piano player who tries to bring his wife back to life but the deal awakens the devil inside him.

“Music was his passion… Love was his masterpiece…” a short synopsis for the animation reads.

‘Malakout’ has attended a number of global events, including the 12th Crystal Palace Int’l Film Festival in the UK, the 35th Guadalajara Int’l Film Festival in Mexico, the 3rd Saints and Sinners Film Festival in the US, the 7th Galactic Imaginarium Film Festival in Spain, the 2020 Capital City Film Festival in the US, the Animator: Int’l Animated Film Festival in Poland, the 21st Newport Beach Film Festival in the US, the 23rd Brooklyn Int’l Film Festival in the US, and the 50th Annual USA Film Festival.

The animation recently received an honorary diploma at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Ireland, the best animation award at the Black Country Horror Shorts Film Festival 2020 in the UK, and two awards at the Florida Animation Festival of the US.

‘Malakout’ is also scheduled to take part in the 17th “In the Palace” Short Film Festival to be held on September 15–22, 2020 in Bulgaria as well as the 2020 Tulipoff Int’l Film Festival set for September 19-20, 2020 in Denmark.

The SIFF is considered by many to be the second biggest film festival in Asia. The first edition of the festival was held from October 7 to 14, 1993.

Due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, the 23rd Shanghai Int’l Film Festival, originally scheduled to take place between June 13 to 22, 2020, is postponed to an online format on July 25 to August 2.
